Openess and communication from Gary McAllister

Mar 12, 05:58 AM

Bad loss last night for Leeds at home. We should have nailed that game and moved back into the promotion playoff spots. 5 games unbeaten, despite the recent upsets, does looks flattering because we have actually only won 2 of those, and last night was the first loss under Gary Mac. A couple of other results went our way a little, but counting on results out of our hands is no recipe for promotion success as we all well know from the last number of seasons.

I am, however, so pleased to see lengthy transcripts on the Leeds site and on the sports news sites, match after match, with game analysis and very personal take on whats going on, from the man McAllister.

Communication (or lack thereof) has been one of the bugbears of all Leeds fans, certainly since the Chelsea takeover, but I think long before. It’s so refreshing to have a manager who a)isn’t an angry midget, short lived, short careered soccer nancy who’s tactical prowess isn’t be fit for sunday league (no offence sunday league), and b) tells us whats going on. Even Poyet, for whom English is a second language, managed to scrape more words together than wise ever did.

And McAllister does it with a fair hand. With every criticism comes a response that tells us how he and the players are dealing with it, rather than brushing off a loss with the usual “didn’t go our way, few of the players did x,y,z, but there are a few positives” line.

So in summary, well done Gary Mac for talking to the fans, and despite the lack of invention at the moment I get the impression that its something he and the team will work at. We have to get into those playoff places!
